When Passion & Purpose Collide

Jorge L. Calderón is a Christ-seeking storyteller, worldbuilder and writer. A devoted husband and father of four who writes generational epics about family, grief, place, spiritual struggle, inheritance and the enduring formation of life.

Calderón was born and raised in Queens, New York—in a NuYoRican Catholic household brought up under the grit, sounds and culture of parents from the South Bronx. His love of storytelling came from being captivated by the likes of epic worlds such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Rocky & the never ending mythology of the WWE.

Those stories of heroes, wounds, rivalries, legacy, spectacle and becoming helped to expand his imagination and inspired a desire to do more than write but to dig into the heart of a person’s character. In doing so, Calderón dug into his own. Throughout his continuous quest of self discovery he continuously circled back to the same central question: “What do I believe in?” He questioned God, Christianity, Catholicism; became cynical toward religion and wrestled for years with his own identity.
He found solace in writing, channeled his questions and internal struggles through fiction while crying his thoughts into the pages of his own journals. He found himself writing stories of becoming shaped by burdens and hardships and through his characters found himself seeking God in his life.

His stories center around people’s relationship with God, with Christ, and with faith in general. How people reject it, accept it, live for it, live to stay away from it, people who wrestle with God, people who deny Him entirely. Much like his life, his stories tend to circle back to the relationship aspect between man and faith.
